The Donald Trump Presidency

Donald Trump’s major weakness

Although Donald Trump is a historic political figure, he has some less enviable traits too.

Chief among them is his short fuse and eagerness to insult those who disagree with a particular set of views. This is an ironic feature to the President- elect, who was helped by an anti- politically correct national mood to gain control of the White House.

These tendencies to intimidate dissenters or those he disagrees with, were seen after Mike Pence was lectured at a theatre by the cast of Hamilton, with Trump responding via twitter.

“Our wonderful future V.P. Mike Pence was harassed last night at the theater by the cast of Hamilton, cameras blazing,” the president-elect tweeted on Saturday, November 19. “This should not happen! The Theater must always be a safe and special place. The cast of Hamilton was very rude last night to a very good man, Mike Pence. Apologize!”

When considering these demands contradicted Mike Pence’s humble reactions to the incident, Trump is made to appear as a fool.

These petty, trivial grievances, are hardly worth the attention of the President- elect, who has far bigger issues to solve.

Having said all that, there are some who have used the incident as evidence of Trump’s lack of fitness to serve as President.

Such people have learnt nothing from the extraordinary 17 month election cycle we just observed.

For if recent history is any guide, writing off or placing limitations on what Trump can achieve, is rarely a wise decision.

  1. Interesting that Trump said the theatre was a “special place”, but the reaction from the Hamilton cast was based on exactly that — there are many women, gays, liberals, minorities, etc. in theatre, and they feel they need to be protected from the hatred they feel from the alt-right reactions the Trump campaign has empowered. So, can he have it both ways?

    1. I think Trump can’t have it both ways. This is why he’s a hypocrite in this respect. And I encourage Trump to get over this whingeing and get on with the job. But, the reaction from the Hamilton cast was interesting. Stay tuned for more. And thanks for your comment!

  2. I agree with you. At this point, Trump needs to let certain things go and having thin skin is not conducive for the Oval Office. I also agree with Al that if this happened to Obama the media would be orgasmic with glee in persecuting the cast. Bottom line, Trump was elected because the people got sick and tired of the stupidity of political correctness. He should let it go.

  3. Agree almost 100% with most of your posts but I have to disagree on this one. Even Steve Van Zant, an avowed liberal and activist, scolded the the actors for there part in this. http://uproxx.com/music/steven-van-zandt-hamilton-mike-pence/. It is something that Trump should very well chime in on. You always stick up for your own. In fact, if it had happened to Obama, it would be a national incident with the customary cries of racist and xenophobe echoing through the halls of the White House.
