The gravy train

Sussan Ley resigns

Amid ongoing speculation of Sussan Ley abusing politician entitlements, she resigned yesterday as Health Minister.

And while Malcolm Turnbull has promised to take action, why should we trust the same political class which knowingly rorted the system for years, to suddenly change course?

“Sussan Ley resigns as Malcolm Turnbull announces new watchdog to oversee MP expense claims”, perthnow, January 13, 2017:

EMBATTLED Health Minister Sussan Ley has resigned as Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has announced a national anti-corruption watchdog will be launched to oversee federal MPs expense claims.

It comes after mounting pressure on the Government this week following revelations about Ms Ley’s extensive travel to the Gold Coast, including a trip where she purchased an apartment and two trips for a New Year’s Eve party.

Ms Ley said in a statement today she was confident she had followed the ministerial guidelines around entitlements but had made a personal decision to resign.

“The ongoing intense media speculation has made this an incredibly difficult week,” Ms Ley said.

“However I am conscious that it has also been a difficult week for the government.

“The ongoing media coverage of politician’s entitlements has been a diversion from the important agenda we all wish to advance at the start of this vital year for our nation and our region.”

  1. So, you’re saying that the U.S. government does not have a corner on the corruption market? I guess there are Hillarys all over the world, eh?
